Non so, dando un’occhiata a delle foto che avevo scattato un paio di anni fa, mi sono imbattuto in questo scatto ritraente un fiore di Ceiba Speciosa. Scrivo giusto per fare un post adesso che per Pasquetta mi sposto verso Catania, per passare un giorno in compagnia della mia ragazza e di alcuni amici.
È anche una scusa per parlare dell’obiettivo con il quale ho scattato questa foto, un Auto Chinon 50mm f1.7.
In realtà sul fiore in sé non c’è molto da dire se non che mi abbia affascinato quando l’ho visto. L’albero si trova (trovava, chissà) presso la Villa Bellini, a Catania, e non ricordo di averne mai visto uno prima di allora. Ricordo anche che mi colpirono i suoi colori vividi e questi petali così longilinei, uniti alla struttura centrale che pareva volersi proiettare quanto più possibile verso il mondo esterno.
Avevo la macchina fotografica con me, quel giorno, quindi fu una scelta naturale scattargli qualche foto.
Ceiba Speciosa a parte…
Ricordo anche come mi colpì rivedere gli scatti al computer quando mi misi a lavorarci su in post produzione, perché la resa che il mio caro Auto Chinon 50mm f1.7 mi aveva dato di questo fiore era incredibilmente dettagliata e vivida nonostante avessi scattato quasi a tutta apertura. Solitamente, gli obiettivi a tutta apertura non rendono al massimo delle loro caratteristiche, soprattutto per quanto riguarda nitidezza e contrasto, ma questo piccolo obiettivo che pagai una ventina di euro mi aveva stupito ancora una volta.
Ne parlo quasi con nostalgia, di questo obiettivo, perché l’ho perso. Non so dove sia finito o dove l’abbia lasciato, e sinceramente mi sembra assurdo, pensandoci, come sia stato possibile perderlo in questo modo. Era malconcio, ammaccato, meccanicamente la messa fuoco aveva qualche difetto, ma otticamente mi ha sempre regalato ottimi scatti.
La foto di questo fiore (ammetto che non ne conoscessi il nome, ho dovuto cercarlo prima di scrivere questo post) mi è comparsa in galleria per caso, e mi ha ricordato quanto mi fosse piaciuta già quando la scattai e modificai. E ora ve la ritrovate qui, in un lunedì di Pasquetta, giusto per un sentimento di amarcord per un oggetto perduto.

Well, taking a look at some photos I took a couple of years ago, I came across this shot depicting a Ceiba Speciosa flower. Now, I’m writing just to make a post while I’m on a bus to Catania, to spend this day of Easter Monday with my girlfriend and some friends.
It’s also an excuse to talk about the lens I took this photo with, an Auto Chinon 50mm f1.7.
In reality, there isn’t much to say about the flower itself other than that it fascinated me when I first saw it. The tree is located (if it’s still there, I don’t know) at Villa Bellini, in Catania, and I don’t remember ever having seen it before. I remember that I was struck by its vivid colors and these long-limbed petals, combined with the central flower structure that seemed to project itself as much as possible towards the outside world.
I had my camera with me that day, so it was a natural choice to take some photos of it.
I also remember how it struck me to review the shots on the computer when I started working on them in post production, because the rendering that my dear Auto Chinon 50mm f1.7 had given me of this flower was incredibly detailed and vivid despite shooting with the lens wide open. Usually, lenses don’t perform at their best when shooting wide open, especially when it comes to sharpness and contrast, but this small lens that I paid around twenty euros amazed me once again.
I talk about it almost with nostalgia, because I have to admit, I unfortunately lost it. I don’t know where this lens ended up or where I left it, and honestly it seems absurd to me, when I think about it, how it was possible to lose it this way. It was beat up, mechanically the focus had some defects, but optically it always gave me excellent shots.
The photo of this flower (I admit that I didn’t know its name, I had to look it up before writing this post) appeared in my gallery by chance, and it reminded me of how much I already liked it when I took it and edited it. And now you find yourself here, on this Easter Monday, reading all of it just for a feeling of amarcord for a long lost object.
